How to install Win9x drivers for HP LaserJet 4050 N?

This installation needs an IP and a password. Please ask them to Muruvet Hanim.
  1. Down-load necessary zipped-driver file appropriate to your system. It is a self-extracting-zip file.
  2. Unzip file by executing it. It will ask for a directory name. Give new one or accept the one given. Enter this directory by using "Windows Explorer". (Start->Programs->Windows Explorer)
  3. Depending on your language of installation of your win9x system, enter a directory named "ENGLISH" or "TURKCE".
  4. Enter the directory called "DISK1". I have to note that this installation needs re-starting so close all other application then start "setup.exe" program. An installation dialog appears
  5. Click Next, Next, Accept,
  6. Here you may want to get latest changes by selecting "Perform Internet Install" then click Next buttons in the dialog.
  7. Select "Custom Installation" then Click Next.
  8. Select "HP LaserJet 4050 N" then Click Next.
  9. Select "Connected directly to a network" then click next
  10. If it is first installation click "Create Port" button to add new port and close warning message by clicking "OK", if it is a re-installation then choose correct port listed. Then click next.
  11. Click Next. The installer starts to copy files and at the end it will ask you to restart your computer.
  12. Click Restart.
  13. After restarting, if you create a new port, a configuration program will run.
  14. Click Next, a dialog named "Add HP JetDirect Port Wizard" appear.
  15. Select "Easy Setup", then click next
  16. Select "TCP/IP printer" and "TCP/IP Address". Enter the 4-byte TCP/IP address of the printer (That Muruvet Hanim gave to you).
  17. Use the password that Muruvet Hanim gave to you.
  18. Click "Finish"
  19. Click "Exit"

 

Now your printer is ready to print but you have to make some global configuration of your printer.

  1. Open "My Computer", "Printers"
  2. You will see your new printers added there:

HP LaserJet 4050 N PCL 6

HP LaserJet 4050 N PCL 5e

HP LaserJet 4050 N PS

  1. Each of those, apply the procedure below.

    Right click on one of them, a pop-up menu appears, choose properties.

    Select "Details" tab and check printer port is a "JetDirect port".

    Select "Paper" tab. Select "Paper Size" as "A4"

    Click "OK"

Choose HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL 6 - next

  3. Open 'Printers' in the 'Control Panel'. (Start->Control Panel->Printers)
  4. Run the 'Add Printer' wizard.
  5. Click 'next' for 'Welcome to the Add printer Wizard'
  6. Choose 'Local printer' and click 'next' for 'Local or Network Printer?'
  7. Choose 'Standard TCP/IP Port' from pull down menu and click 'next' for 'Create Port'
  8. (A new wizard starts) Click 'next' for 'Welcome to the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard'
  9. Enter the IP from muruvet hanim and click 'next' for 'Add port'
  10. Click 'finish' for 'Completing the Add Standard TCP/IP Printer Port Wizard' to close the new wizard.
  11. Choose 'Have Disk' for 'Add Printer Wizard'
  12. Browse to the directory where the extracted files placed for 'Install from disk' and click 'ok'
  13. Choose 'HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL 6' and click 'next'
  14. Next, next, finish ( note that default selections in those dialogs are ok but you can change as you wish).
