Homework questions will be assigned but not collected or graded. A much larger number of problems are found in the book.
There will be homework quizzes consisting of problems very similar to those in the homeworks.
The homework quiz schedule is on the web page. Read, study, and start working on each homework as soon as you can. Be sure to allocate sufficient time to do it properly. Prepare questions related to any difficulties you have, so you can discuss them with your friends or get help from the assistants during office hours.
Each of the two homework quizzes will cover 4-5 homeworks. All quizzes will be closed book/notes/device but you will be allowed to bring "cheat sheets". Specifically, you will be allowed to bring 10 double-sided A4 sheets of paper (10 pieces of paper, 20 sides). All the rules that apply to lab quizzes also apply to homework quizzes. Please see "General information about labs and quizzes" for these rules.
You must turn in ALL your cheat sheets along with your quiz solutions. They will be considered part of your work, but only the quiz solutions will be graded. Unless there is any irregularity the cheat sheets will not be read. Make sure to keep a copy or scan for yourself if you want to, as you will not get them back.

This is a course in which very basic concepts are introduced and very important skills are developed. You cannot expect to learn the subject matter properly without trying your hand out at some problems.
This is the type of course where previous exercise and experience has a great effect on exam performance.
